Old Story -> New Story: A Transformative Practice

Old Story -> New Story: A Transformative Practice

Here’s a simple transformative practice for daily use.

Throughout your day, notice when an old familiar thought pops up – one that limits, discourages or diminishes you. It might sound like:

● “My mother had it, my grandmother had it, so I’ll probably get it too.”
● “I’m too old to start something new.”
● “I’m too busy.”
● “It’s too late for me.”
● “That’s just how I’ve always been.”

When you catch it, pause.

Step 1: Interrupt the Pattern

Say out loud or internally: “Old story.” This simple identification stops the autopilot loop.

Step 2: Clarify What You Don’t Want

Acknowledge it directly: “I know I don’t want ___________.” This gives your mind closure and helps you pivot.

Step 3: Create Your New Story

Now think or speak: “New story.” Acknowledge directly: What I do want is __________ .”

Examples:

Old Story: Illness runs in my family.”
New Story: “My body is capable of healing, thriving and growing stronger.”

Old Story: “I get overwhelmed easily.”
New Story: “ I’m getting better at finding clarity and trusting myself to handle what comes.”

Old Story: “ I’m anxious by nature.”
New Story: “Confidence is starting to grow in me every day.”

Old Story: “ I’m too old to start something new.”
New Story: “This is exactly the right time for fresh beginnings .”

Step 4: Repeat Gently, Not Forcefully

The goal isn’t perfection – it’s practice (remember ‘reward the try”. Each time you choose the new story, you reinforce a new identity a new trajectory, a new vibration.

Why It Works

Your brain rewires around what you repeatedly think.

Your body responds emotionally to the story you tell.

Your energy shifts to match you words.

And little by little, your life begins aligning with the new narrative. We are not just living a story – we are creating it every day.

Much love, Patty
