Ever hear of Grandma Moses?
She came into my awareness when I was in my early 20’s, and ever since then, I’ve held her as a beacon of light for my own personal journey.
Here’s Chat GPT’s version of her story:
“Grandma Moses, born Anna Mary Robertson Moses (1860-1961), was an American folk artist known for her vibrant, nostalgic paintings of rural life. She began painting seriously in her late 70’s, after arthritis made it difficult for her to continue her earlier craft of embroidery.
Her artistic career started almost by chance – she initially painted for own enjoyment and to decorate her home. A local collector discovered her work in a drugstore in 1938, and soon after, her paintings gained national attention. By the 1940’s, she was widely celebrated, with exhibitions in New York and beyond. Her style, characterized by bright colors, detailed landscapes, and scenes of everyday life, captured an idyllic vision of the American countryside.
She continued painting into her 90’s, producing over 1,500 works before her death at age 101.”
You see why she is inspirational, right?
Through the years, as I was raising a family and desperately trying to keep it all together, thinking of Grandma Moses, I could give myself a bit of a pass. I thought, worst case scenario, I’d have until my 70’s to ‘figure it out’. So here I am, 71, in my 72nd year, and finally beginning to feel like ‘Hey, I’m actually starting to get the hang of this wild ride called Life’.
You may think this is laughable, but for me? You know how I know I’m finally get the hang of it? It’s because now, at this stage of the game, I am finally learning to gauge my success on how I FEEL, actually, internally FEEL on a moment by moment, and day to day basis.
When I say FEEL, what I mean is how is your mood, your overall demeanor? Are you trending towards anxious or hopeful? Ornery or playful? You recognize these qualities quickly around certain people, yes? So the question is, where does your internal space trend towards? And do you know that you, and you alone, get to decide where you want to be headed?
The Yoga I share is about developing the skills (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual) to find the next best feeling that is available, moment by moment. It’s not about perfection or trying to get it right, it’s about looking towards what you want to be creating (inwardly and outwardly) and guiding your Self in that direction.
And by the way, we don’t get there by lingering in the energy of the problem. We get there by learning to play in the energy of the solution, which is a very different energy.
If this sounds interesting, come join me and a few other adventurous souls as we journey towards the MORE – more STABILITY, more SPACIOUSNESS, and more SATISFACTION… what I call the 3 “S’s” of success.
