“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Howard Thurman, Theologian, Philosopher, Civil Rights leader.
So my question to you is: what makes you come alive? What lights you up from the inside out? What reminds that you that this is a beautiful world filled with many moments to feel joy?
Are there things you love doing? Are there places that pop into your head and instantly make you smile? Are there little everyday moments that just feel right without even trying?
When you deliberately and consciously turn your thoughts to well-beingness, it is an act of power! You are changing your internal state and creating a new template for yourself.
Rodgers and Hammerstein even wrote a whole song about doing this — “My Favorite Things”. And honestly, they were onto something. Tuning into the things that bring you joy isn’t just charming — it’s actually a legit, research-backed way to create a more fulfilling and satisfying life. When you talk about your “Favorite Things”, when you focus on them, when you remember them, your body releases a whole slew of chemicals that guides you into your well-beingness.
So I’d like to share what one of my favorite things is (besides Yoga). And invite you to be part of it.
Some of you know that I first discovered Yoga back in college, where I was studying voice and music education. To this day, singing remains one of the things that brings me the most joy. I’ve been singing in choral groups since I was about six years old, and it’s truly become the soundtrack to my life.
Which brings me to my first invitation. On June 7th, the group I currently sing with–the Westchester Choral Society— is doing something a little different. We’re stepping away from our usual repertoire of classical choral works and singing contemporary songs filled with heart and good vibes. There will also be lots of good food and a silent auction. Here’s the flyer if you’d like to join us–I’d love to see you there!
And if you’ve ever wanted to explore your own voice, I’ve been helping people sing and connect with their instrument for years. It brings me almost as much joy as singing in groups and I’d be happy to support you on that journey too. Send me an email and we can set up a consultation for you.
And here’s the 2nd invitation for you:
Mark your calendar for another Free Zoom Yoga Class coming up Wednesday night, May 21st at 7:15 pm. Tell your friends, share the link, the more the merrier.
